Die Galerie Ulrike Hrobsky freut sich, ihr Herbstprogramm mit einer Präsentation der Arbeiten von Josef Bücheler und Angela M. Flaig zu eröffnen. Bücheler, 1936 in Wiesbaden geboren, beschäftigt sich mit den grundsätzlichen Fragen nach Material und Form in der Bildhauerei. „Die Reduktion von Form und Material ist mir wichtig.“, sagt Josef Bücheler über seine Arbeit, „Die Objekte erhalten durch das Zusammenspiel des Materials und dessen Kräfte während des Arbeitsprozesses ihre Gestalt. Das Material wird mitbestimmend für die räumliche Form, für Inhalt und Aussage meiner Objekte. Materialität und Immaterialität bilden die Pole meiner Arbeit.“ Die Materialien, mit denen Bücheler seine Plastiken erarbeitet, sind Weidenruten, Papierreste, Grafit, Erde und Asche; Materialien, die er in seiner unmittelbaren Umgebung sammelt. Gleichzeitig ruft das von ihm gewählte Material vielfältige Assoziationen zu Vergänglichkeit, Flüchtigkeit und Transzendenz hervor. Josef Büchelers Arbeiten verweigern sich eindeutigen Interpretationen, spielen mit Andeutungen und Hinweisen. Das Erleben seiner Werke überlässt er ganz dem Betrachter. Auch die Künstlerin Angela M. Flaig, 1948 in Schramberg geboren, schöpft die Inspiration und das Material für ihre Arbeiten aus ihrer Umgebung, ihrem Alltag. Ihre Objekte und Bilder bestehen aus verschiedensten Pflanzensamen. Sie verbindet dieses zarte, fragile Material mit strengen, geometrischen Formen, und führt damit den Gegensatz von Natürlichkeit und Künstlichkeit vor. Im Zuge von Flaigs Arbeitsprozess wird die Kraft der Natur eingefroren, die flüchtigen Samen werden von der Künstlerin geordnet und fixiert, aus dem Naturkreislauf herausgerissen und entstofflicht. Die Objekte sind von einer ungewohnten Leichtigkeit und scheinen im Raum zu schweben. Aus diesem Spiel zwischen Schwere und Leichtigkeit, Form und Material entsteht das Geheimnisvolle und Spirituelle an Flaigs Arbeiten.

Bücheler, born in 1963 in Wiesbaden (GER) , deals with fundamental questions of form and material in sculpture. “The reduction of form and material is my main concern”, Josef Bücheler states about his work, “The objects obtain their shape through the interplay of the material and its powers during the working process. The material defines the special form, the content and the meaning of my objects. Materiality and immateriality are the two poles within my work.” The materials that Bücheler uses in his work are osier stakes, paper scraps, graphite, earth and ashes; materials that he finds in his surroundings. At the same time the chosen materials recalls many associations to transience, fleetingness and transcendence. Josef Bücheler’s pieces refuse any definite interpretations; instead, they play with hints and indications. It rests with the viewers themselves to experience his pieces.
The artist Angela M. Flaig, born in 1948 in Schramberg (GER), also uses her surroundings, her everyday life, as a source of inspiration and material for her practice. Her objects and paintings consist of many different kinds of plant seeds. She combines this tender, fragile material with strict geometric forms, stressing the opposition between the natural and the artificial. In the course of Flaig’s artistic process, the force of nature comes to a halt, the fleeting seeds are sorted and fixed by the artist, pulled from the natural cycle and made immaterial. The objects are of an unusual lightness and seem to be floating in space. This interplay between heaviness and lightness, form and material make up the secretive and spiritual about Flaigs pieces.. |
